Cassius Johnson is an independent consultant and a Senior Advisor at Jobs for the Future. Prior to relocating to Florida with his family, he was Vice President of Organizational Strategy and Policy at Jobs for the Future. As Vice President, Cassius was responsible for the overall success of strategy execution and business development; management and development of national and federal education and workforce policy initiatives; and development and implementation of a JFF research strategy.
Cassius has worked in philanthropy and public policy. He held the position of Director of Government Affairs and Policy at Year Up, Inc. He was also a program officer at the Carnegie Corporation of New York conducting grant making to advance national education reform and new school designs. Prior to that he was Associate Vice President at Jobs for the Future where he worked for almost eight years, launching the organization’s DC operations and directing national and federal policy activities. In 2010, Cassius testified before the United States Senate HELP Committee. He began his policy career in the Texas State Legislature where he was Chief of Staff for a member of the House of Representatives.
Today his day-to-day work involves supporting national organizations, local government and foundations to develop strategy, design and implement solutions, and advance policies that improve the life outcomes of low-income and disadvantaged populations and advance economic growth in those communities.
Cassius served on the Massachusetts State Board of Education and chaired the Youth Committee. He is also Vice Chair of the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation and member of the iMentor Board of Directors. Cassius attended the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs in Austin, Texas where he was a Barbara Jordan Scholar.
