Elorm F. Avakame is a Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Policy candidate at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard John F. Kennedy School of Government. He is also a Sheila C. Johnson Leadership Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School’s Center for Public Leadership. He is originally from Philadelphia, PA and is of Ghanaian descent. Elorm aspires to a career in Pediatrics with a subspecialty concentration in Adolescent Medicine. He is passionate about issues affecting teens of color in urban communities, particularly in his home city of Philadelphia. His experience in this work has ranged from a role with an urban nutrition nonprofit in West Philadelphia to the Harvard Health Professions Recruitment and Exposure Program, a mentorship and youth development program Prior to coming to Harvard Medical School, he was an undergraduate academic advisor at Rutgers University for underrepresented students pursuing careers in the health sciences. He is an avid believer in the supremacy of all Philadelphia sports teams despite mounting evidence to the contrary.
