Alexius Young is an environmental sustainability professional currently working in North America’s second-largest business improvement area, DUKE Heights Business Improvement Area (BIA). The main objective of DUKE Heights is to offer support to local businesses within the BIA borders and help the community reach its highest potential through community events and beautification projects. Alexius plays a crucial part within the organization as her responsibilities include engaging with stakeholders, community members, and management in order to research, design, and execute sustainable strategies within the Toronto region.
Prior to her work with the BIA, she obtained her Masters’s in Corporate Environmental Management from the University of Surrey in Guildford, England. During her studies, she also worked for the Thames Valley Police as their Sustainability Coordinator, implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their Stronghold brand. Alexius also participated as a CES Athena SWAN Committee Member that worked in partnership with the University of Surrey faculty to prepare the application for the bronze medal that aims to improve and promote women in science, technology, engineering, maths, and medicine. In addition to her Masters, Alexius completed her undergraduate in an Arts and Science program where she studied Molecular Biology and Genetics, as well as, French at the University of Guelph, in Ontario, Canada.
Throughout her academic career, Alexius has created a thesis at both the undergraduate and master level, investigating the effects of global warming and sustainable living through analyzing quantitative and qualitative data. Alexius continues her academic work throughout her accomplishments at the BIA, as well as, various volunteering activities.
