glo merriweather

glo merriweather (lowercase intended) is a Black, trans non-binary person living on stolen Catawba and Waccamaw-Siouan territory (what is called Charlotte, NC). In 2016, glo witnessed the murder of Justin Carr during the Charlotte Uprising and was put on trial with felony charges until 2018 when their charges were finally dismissed. After witnessing police-murder and experiencing such extreme trauma, glo became focused on building healing-centered communities, free from state violence.

glo is also the founder of Collective Decolonizing, a decolonization workshop, oriented toward white and white privileged individuals, that focuses on how liberal and, even radical, folks with white privilege perpetuate white supremacy in their personal and emotional relations. In addition, they work with children and families in the capacity of mentoring and parent coaching.

glo passionately believes that liberation requires imagination, willingness to engage in conflict, and intersectionality. With these tools, glo feels true freedom is more than possible, but pending. “
