Nyaruot Nguany is a former Project Coordinator and one of the original youth organizers for the Maine Environmental Changemakers Network, hosted by the Maine Environmental Education Association. Nyaruot has been deeply involved in the design process as the network has grown and evolved over the past five years. Nyaruot is passionate about working at the intersection of environmental education and social justice. She attends Southern Maine Community College where she is pursuing a degree in Liberal Arts with a plan to continue on to a four year University. Nyaruot volunteers at a local teen center working in the kitchen preparing meals for the clients and staff. In April of 2019 she was named Harvard Pilgrim Health Foundation Healthy Food Champion and Changemakers was awarded the national UL Innovation in Education Award, and was selected as a Case Study highlighted by the North American Association of Environmental Education in their new Equity and Inclusion online learning module. In June 2020 Nyaruot was recognized by the Alliance for Climate Education for her work in climate activism which was featured on their website. Nyaruot is also passionate about outdoor recreation and will be upgrading her WAFA certification to a WFR this May through the Appalachian Mountain Club. She hopes to get her Maine Guide License sometime in 2022!
